SOLVIT - Help with problems in the EC internal market

Upon joining the European Union, the Czech Republic joined the SOLVIT system, which can help businesses and citizens from Member States when an authority from another Member State misapplies EC law to the detriment of a business or citizen.

These include situations where the inspection authority of another Member State requires additional documentation for the supply of Czech products before they are placed on the market in that Member State or requires the Czech product to undergo a new authorisation procedure. This procedure is, with certain exceptions, contrary to the principle of free movement of goods, i.e. contrary to European law (Articles 34-36 Treaties on the functioning of the EU).

SOLVIT offers an alternative to court proceedings. Its advantages are informality, speed, and transparency of procedures, while maintaining complete discretion as regards the information provided by the applicant. The service is provided free of charge.

The SOLVIT system consists of a network of so-called "SOLVIT centres" connected to each other via a special internet database.

SOLVIT offers a fast and efficient solution to citizens' and businesses' disputes with the authorities throughout the EU, as well as in Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland.

More detailed information about the functioning of SOLVIT can be found on the website European Commission.
